We have been developing the event side of Metfield over the summer, hence the very few blog entries, which is a situation I fully intend to remedy over the coming months. This entry then is just a little catch up with what we've been doing over the last few months - believe me it's been busy. In fact the busiest summer ever.....admin | 04 April, 2007 15:03

Thought I'd try and maybe once a month post up whatever I could think of that was seasonal in that month, and what I have cooked with it or thought I'd like to cook. Any recipes I can think of I'll post in the recipe section. Have just thought that this should cover other foods not just veg - perhaps seafood, but it can wait for another post.

Bit of both really. I see on some websites in the States that some American writers are starting to refer to them as 'sunroots' which apparently is close to the Native American original. I quite like the English name for it though, which bears, at first sight no relation at all to the plant which is a type of helianthemum (Helianthus tuberosus). However it would seem that it is a corruption of 'Girasole' which is an Italian word for sunflower. Sarah who works here refers to them as 'fartichokes' for obvious reasons. However they are delicious and a valuable vegetable at a scarce time of year.
